Food for Thought:
Spread Awareness, Support Families

Chronic childhood malnutrition is a persistent issue in Guatemala, with nearly 50% of children under five experiencing stunted growth due to inadequate nutrition (UNICEF). This condition has significant, lifelong consequences, particularly for children affected during critical years of physical and cognitive development.

Recognizing the urgent need for effective interventions to ensure that children receive the essential nutrients they require for healthy development, ALDEA collaborates with the Guatemalan organization ABPD to implement an integrated program that tackles the root causes of chronic malnutrition in partnership with local communities. Key components of our program include nutrition education to empower families to make informed dietary choices, the establishment of family gardens and provision of laying hens to enhance access to healthy foods, and support for farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices that improve food security.

This October, we invite you to help raise awareness about chronic childhood malnutrition in Guatemala and raise $40,000 to support 25 families through all 3 years of our integrated program. Join us in spreading some Food for Thought as we stand in solidarity with Guatemalan families!

about the fundraiser

Our goal is to raise $40,000 during October to support 25 families through all three years of our integrated program aimed at combating chronic childhood malnutrition in Guatemala.

Throughout the month, we will share insights into the nutritional landscape in Guatemala, the challenges many families face in meeting their nutritional needs, and stories of program participants who have directly benefited from our work. We invite you to support us by donating and helping to raise awareness about chronic childhood malnutrition. By sharing our communications with your network this month, you can play a key role in informing others and inspiring change. Be part of sharing some Food for Thought this October!
