One year ago, we began partnering with families in the village of Tonajuyú. This is the first community we have worked with in the municipality of Chimaltenango. We initiated this collaborative relationship by implementing workshops focusing on topics ranging from nutrition, health, and hygiene to leadership. As families progressed through our program cycle, we began to supplement existing program components with training courses in sustainable agricultural practices for local farmers and the distribution of laying hens, all with the goal of increasing food security and nutrition in the community. Now, one year in to the two year program, we are excited to announce that we have broken ground on a potable water project that will pipe clean, drinkable water directly to the homes of participating families. This is a crucial step in our integrated program that will reinforce existing efforts to increase the health and hygiene of families by reducing the risk of contracting gastrointestinal illnesses brought on by the consumption of contaminated water. Soon, the community will have access to a reliable source of clean water that will supply the village for many years to come. We would like to extend our gratitude to all our donors and community partners that made this project possible!
