Recently, our current cohort of community health promoters were trained in providing follow-up for newborn babies to ensure adequate growth and give relevant advice to mothers when necessary. Community health promoters are the backbone of our program’s success in the long term. During the two-year program cycle they are in topics ranging from pre and post-natal care, nutrition, sustainable agricultural practices, human rights, leadership skills, and more. Once ABPD completes their intensive two-year program, the community health promoters begin to serve as trusted sources of information and guidance in their communities regarding the topics mentioned above. Their intimate understanding of the social, cultural, political, and geographic contexts that their communities live in aids them in providing relevant insights to support the continued development of their communities. This translated into truly community-driven change, essential to creating prosperous communities.
