Reducing the Risk of Gastrointestinal Diseases in Chijacinto

In Chijacinto, Tecpán, we are building a potable water system to improve the health of families in the community. In a few months, these families will have access to clean water. With easier access to water comes an increase in water use, meaning more water being polluted, creating a new source of potential health risks. For that reason, ABPD supports the construction of gray water filters in the homes of participants in the childhood nutrition program to compliment the potable water system. These filters treat water used in cooking and washing to remove chemicals and organic matter that encourage the growth of harmful bacteria and can contaminate local water sources, decreasing pollution and contributing to the reduction of risk in contracting gastrointestinal diseases.
